Sophocles

Sophocles was a 5th-century BC Athenian tragedian and one of the most celebrated playwrights in the history of the city-state. Over his career, he wrote more than 120 plays, though only seven survive in complete form, including Oedipus Rex and Antigone. A dominant figure in dramatic competitions, he participated in 30 events, winning 24 and never placing lower than second.
